Maia Miller, a teacher at New Albany Middle School (NAMS), has been named “Teacher of the Year” for the New Albany School District.  Miller has 28 years of experience in education and has worked in the New Albany Schools for five years teaching 6th grade math.

Miller graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  She received her Master of Education degree from Union University in 2007. 

“Maia Miller truly exhibits the qualities of an exceptional teacher,” said Tana Ranager, Miller’s colleague at NAMS.  “She possesses the necessary knowledge coupled with the experience needed to succeed in the classroom, her compassion and caring for others place her well above a good teacher, making her an extraordinary teacher! 

Miller is a member of Mississippi Professional Educators and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.  At NAMS, she has served as a co-leader for staff development for MAP Training and has conducted staff development presentations regarding MCT 2 training. 

Miller lives in Holly Springs where she is very active in the community.  She attends First Presbyterian Church where she is an Elder and Deacon.  She is a member of the Holly Springs Garden Club.  She is a past board member of the Holly Springs Tourism and Recreation Department and a past member of the Thursday Literary Club.  She and her husband Mark have two grown children, Graham and Cathryn.   

Mrs. Miller has been entered into the competition for State Teacher of the Year that will be announced this coming summer.
